John McCain Bio-Sketch

A person’s core belief system is greatly determined by his childhood and life experiences; one’s background can also determine emotional reponse to a situation as well as his overall viewpoint. John Sidney McCain III’s belief system is very influenced by his military background, which taught him the value of courage, determination and discipline. He was born August 29, 1936 in Coco Solo Naval Air Station. He grew up as a "Navy Brat", and constantly moved from base to base. Until he went to Episcopal High school, a private preparatory school, in Alexandria, Virginia. He graduated in 1958. He then Graduates from Naval Academy at Annapolis [5th from the bottom of his class] in 1958. He then attended flight school until graduating in 1960. On his 23rd flight his plane was shot down and he broke both of his legs and was held as POW for 5 years. He was held in solitary confinement for 3 1/2 years and beaten severely. Once rescued he endured a painful 9 month recovery. Despite all this he went back into flight training and tried to regain the ability to go back to war. Unfortunately it soon became clear that his injuries made it impossible to return. This shows how loyal and resilient he is, and how he really understands the sacrifices so many have made in the war.
McCain is Pro-Life. Addressing the environmental issues we are facing McCain introduced the climate stewardship and Innovation act of 2007 designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. He will also be putting some funds towards discovering alternative fuels, and drilling here in the US. This shows that McCain does care about the environment and is going to work on some long term changes but is also going to focus on the immediate short term solutions. He has opposed federally mandated universal health coverage but is pushing small businesses to band together and negotiate lower rates. This shows that McCain does care about the well being of America but does not want the people to become dependant on the Government. He also says he will reform the Tax code to offer choices beyond employee based insurance, and voted in favor of extending tax cuts through 2010.

Sarah Palin Bio-Sketch

Through various life experiences and background a persons core belief system can be determined. As well as their emotional response to a given situation. An example of this can be shown through Sarah Palin. She was born, on February 11, 1964, in Sandpoint, Idaho to Charles and Sally Palin. Shortly after she was born the family moved to Wassila, Alaska where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from Wassila High in 1982 and then went on to earn a BA in Communications-Journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987. After college she moved back to Wasilla, where she later married, and had 5 kids. Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper, and Trig, who has downsyndrome. Later she was elected the 11th govenor of Alaska.
Palin is very conservative in her beliefs. She is pro-life and says "Every baby is created with a future and potential" and says if you don't wnat it juts put it up for adoption. The only exception would be if the mothers life would be lost. This can be supported by the fact that her youngest son Trig, has downs syndrome, but she still chose to have him. It is also supported by the afct that her 17 yera old daughter is pregnant, but refuswed to ahve it aborted. She also believes in Man and Woman mariiage only, vetoing bill giving benefits to gays. She made a 7 bilion dollar savings plan for education and transportation. She supports charter, homeschools, and other alternatives as well as k-12 schooling. To her Global warming does affect everyone but says it is a natural cause, not man-made. She supports Alaskan drilling and wants to produce gas here in America for national security.

Barack Obama Bio-Sketch

A persons overall viewpoint in life, as well as an emotional response they may have in a situation is greatly determined by his background as is his core of beliefs. Obama’s rough family background greatly influenced his choices and actions in life today, it taught him that not everything is going to be easy and gives him the understanding of struggles many people face every day. Barack Hussein Obama was born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. When Obama was two his parents separated and later divorced, leaving you Obama in a broken home. This shows the people that Obama knows what its like to come from a broken home and understands how hard it can be. When Obama turned 6 his mom remarried and moved to Jakarta where he attended schools that had many lessons taught in Indonesian. When he turned 10 he moved back to Honolulu to live with his grandparents. He was one of 3 black children at the school and this is the time when racism first becomes apparent and a problem to him. Obama admits to using cocaine, marijuana, and alcohol in his teen years, his mistakes makes him seem much more human than he would originally appear. Obama studied at Occidental College in LA for two years before transferring to Columbia University in New York, he graduated with a Political science degree. He then entered Harvard Law in 1988, and was elected first African American Editor of the Harvard Law, he graduated in 1991. Advocacy work that he did led him to run for Illinois State Senate as a Democrat, and in 2000 he made an unsuccessful run for U.S. House of Representatives. Later he beat multimillionaire Blair Hull in a run for U.S. Senate.
Obama is Pro-Choice and opposes any constitutional amendment to overrun the supreme courts decision of Roe v. Wade. Addressing the Environmental crisis at hand he would implement economy-wide cap-and-trade program to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and take many further steps against Greenhouse gases. This shows that Obama cares and is very aware of what is going on and that it needs to be helped, soon. He has promised to create a national insurance program for individuals without employer given healthcare. It will allow for children under 25 to be covered by their parents plan. This shows that Obama knows what its like to be in the situation where you and your kids are sick your struggling with two jobs but still cannot get healthcare. Obama opposed use of Military forces in Iraq and would deploy U.S. troops one of two brigades a month, but would still maintain residual force with al Qaeda. This shows that although Obama is againt the war in Iraq he does believe that something needs to be done about terrorism. He supports eliminating marriage penalty and extending child tax credit and also favors tax-cut for middle-class workers and tax increase for top earners.

Joe Biden Bio-Sketch

Many times a persons emotional response and overall veiwopoint of life is determined through verious life experiences. Joseph Biden, Jr. was born on November, 20th 1942 in Scrathon Pensylvania to Catholic Parents. Although this upbringing didn't fully affect any of his veiws. It did lead his view of abortion to be partial-birth. Biden attended St.Helenas school in Wilmington, Delaware and Achemy Acadamy in Claymount. After graduating high school he attended the University of Delaware graduating in 1965 then went onto the Law School of Syracuse University. After graduating he started a LAw Firm in WIlmingto, Delaware that was widely succesful. That same yer he beat out 2-term US Senator by 3,162 votes. In 1971 he happily married Jill Jacobs. Having 3 children, Beau, Hunter, and Ashley.

Unfortunately both his wife and one year old daughter died in a car accidnet. Just a few weeks later both his sons were fatally injured, and placed in diffferent hospitals. He was ocnstantly traveling back and forth between the two. Both of thses tragic events are what pursuaded him to pursue the position of Senate.

Obama, 10 Issues

Abortion
Barack Obama believes he should protect the womans right to choose. He says that you can find common ground between pro-life and pro-choice. He is also undecided on wether or not life begins at conecption. He trusts women to make the right decision on partial-birth abortion. To further support his beliefs he wrote an article saying that a fetus cannot sue its mother. He also voted no to notifying parents when teens get out of state abortions.
Education
Barack Obama believes early childhood education is of the utmost importance, and will put billions of dollars into it. He believes that america needs a real commitment to education. He also believes that there should be many ways for a student to have their college paid for. [other than scholarships] For example he believes that the government should pay the money for a person who is studying to become a teacher. He also believes that students should be able to earn college tution, Like 4,000 dollars of tution a year for 100 hours of community service. He also wants to get parents re-engaged with their childrens education, and will make it easier for the parents to be involved.
Death Penalty
Barack Obama believes the the dealth penatly should not be comeltelt de-legalized but should be enforced fairly and with extreme caution. He believes that the death penalty should not discriminate anything. But he does believe that some henious crimes desrve the "ultimate punishment."
Environment
Energy issues have so dominated the 2008 election that all other environmental issues have fallen aside. en previously asked what he would do to better the Environment Barack Obama said "It is critical that we understand this is not just a challenge, it's an opportunity, because if we create a new energy economy, we can create five million new jobs, easily. It can be an engine that drives us into the future the same way the computer was the engine for economic growth over the last couple of decades. We can do it, but we're going to have to make an investment. The same way the computer was originally invented by a bunch of government scientists who were trying to figure out, for defense purposes, how to communicate, we've got to understand that this is a national security issue, as well." Barack Obama believes that immedate action should be taken twords the environment because it is in crisis. In further support of his beliefs Obama will end the notion of Yucca Mountain nuclear storage, and Promote organized inner city recycling.
Health Care
When asked about Health Care Obama said "Well, I think it should be a right for every American. In a country as wealthy as ours, for us to have people who are going bankrupt because they can't pay their medical bills--for my mother to die of cancer at the age of 53 and have to spend the last months of her life in the hospital room arguing with insurance companies because they're saying that this may be a pre-existing condition and they don't have to pay her treatment, there's something fundamentally wrong about that." Obama believes the problem with health care is affordability so he will lower the cost and make it completely government paid. So everyone will ahve acess to it, the rich and poor alike. He will guarantee health care for anyone who needs it.
Immigration
Barack Obama says that Americans have nothing to fera from the Illegal Immigrants today. he says we need a comprehensive reform, much like the one McCain used to support. He pushes poeple to recognize the humanity of immigrants, and also believes every student hsould be encouraged to learn a second language. He feels that deporting 2 million people is unnessisary and impractical, and he will vote to continue funding for "sanctuary cities."
Iraq War
Barack Obama believes the Iraq war is a waste of money and lives because it is completely unnessisary. He said "I am not opposed to war. I am opposed to a rash war." He believes the the war conceptually flawed from the start. He plans to ahve all the troops out of Iraq by the end of 2009. He also says he will end the mindset it has gotten us into. Although he will be pulling troops out of Iraq he still plans to send men to target and try to find Al Queada, and will only place troops in harms way when absolutely nessisary.
Economy
Barack Obama blames the Economic Crisis on Bush by saying that when Bush came in we had a surplus and now after he has been in term we have a deficit. He supported the bailout because he veiws it as the only way to gte us back on our feet but lso believes many changes must be made so it does not happen again.
Poverty
Barack Obama believes that there is too much wealth held at the top and not enough of it trickles down to the bottom. He believes that we should "spread the wealth" through all American citizens. In order to do this he will tax the wealthy more and the poor less. Using the extra money from the alleged "rich" to help pay for things for the poor. He grew up in a family with very little money which has probably shaped his overall veiwpoint on the entire situation.
Stem Cell Research
In a letter to the president urging him to support the bill expanding the right for Stem Cell research Obama wrote: Recent developments in stem cell research may hold the key to improved treatments, if not cures, for those affected by Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, spinal cord injury and countless other conditions. Obmaa has voted yes to all bills expanding the right for stem cell research and believes the with further research can bring even better curs to the medical world. This is especailly important to a huge number of crippling, sometimes fatal diseases and may end up saving millions of lives.

McCain, 10 political issues

Abortion
John McCain is strictly opposed to Abortion. No pertial-birth, and no public funding. He is an advocate for the rights of man everywhere. He believes the you should prosecute abortion doctors not the women recieving them. He believes that you should have a "family conference" if your daughter ever wanted an abortion. In support of this he voted yes on mainting all abortion bans, as well as adding new ones.
Education
John McCain believes that all schools hsould answer to the students and parents, not the other way around. Parents should have easier acess to obtain help for their children. He also believes all schools should teach virtues, and that we should shake up failed school bureaucracies with competition. He has said "good teachers should earn more than bad lawyers" and he will target funding to recruit top graduates as teachers. He believes that schools should still bve a place where each person can express their personal beliefs, there should be no law against it. To further support this he voted yes on declaring memorial prayers and religious symbols okay at schools, as well as allowing more flexibility in federal school rules.
Death Penalty
The Death Penalty is curently implemented in 30 states. AFter being re-legalized by a Supreme court decision in 1977. Most of the controversy on the death penalty lands on where it hsould be applied. John McCain is Pro-Death penalty and believes there should be more prisons and increased penalties. He once said "If someone was to murder 30 people, I would not want to know there is a chance of his escape" Although he does support is he voted yes to limiting death penalty appeals and believes that it hsould be done in the most humane way possible.
Environment
When asked what he would do for the environment John McCain said "We can move forward, and clean up our climate, and develop green technologies, and alternative energies for battery-powered cars, so that we can clean up our environment and at the same time get our economy going by creating millions of jobs." Supporting his words McCain voted in favor of tougher regulations on emission requirements. However he did vote againt lowering the funds for roads the go through rainforests.
Health Care
The issue of Health Care, its price, who has it, who doesnt, how easily exessible it is, and how each cantidate plans to handle it has been a rising concern in this elecetion. McCain says health care is a responsibility; just make it available. McCain believes the Health records should be out online to reduce medical errors. He also believes the the afmily should make health decisions, not the federal government. He also says that so socailize health care would ruin it. He would give each family a $5,000 refundable tax credit. In further support of his views McCain voted yes on increasing Medicaid rebate for producing generics and no on a $40 billion per year for limited Medicare prescription drug benefit.
Immigration
Immigration has become a growing concern in the US for amny reasons, for one many illegal immigrants have been commiting various crimes, some miniscule but others very harmful. They ahve also been taking over jobs because they will do hard labor for less, this concers the popeles who's jobs are being lost. John McCain will restart comprehensive reform only after securing borders and deport 2 million illegal imigrants who have commited crimes. With legal immigrants he will do everything he can to help them transition into the country more smoothly such as developing programs to help them more easily learn english.
Iraq War
John McCain believes the the cause of the Iraq war was just and the war itself is nessisary, acheivable, and noble, and he is okay with the American presence in Iraq for 100 years. He voted against a plan for Iraq because it has a times table, he says it is a white flag for surrender. With all that he has said it is very clear that McCain is in full support of the war and does not plan to end it any time soon. Unless it becomes unessisary and no longer worth the loss of money and lives.
Economy
When asked about the current economic situation and what has to be done McCain said "We obviously have to stop this spending spree that's going on in Washington. Do you know that we've laid a $10 trillion debt on young Americans, $500 billion of it we owe to China? We've got to have a package of reforms and it has got to lead to reform prosperity and peace in the world. And I think that this problem has become so severe, that we're going to have to do something about home values." McCAin also says that Americans are innocent victims of wallstreet greed. He has vetoed all pork-barrel bills and announce pork spenders. In doing this it will help rid Amerivca of the problems they ahve been causing.
Poverty
John McCain has said that middle and lower income Americans definately need to recieve more help. Although he will be funding help he says that all welfare recipients need to be working at least 40 hours a week. He does this because otherwise people can just sit back and do nothing but still recieve money to survive off of.
Stem Cell Research
McCain feels that stem-cell research will save many lives from crippling diseases and has voted in afvor of all bills allowing the expansion and further funding for stem cell research. He says it will be greatly effective and a huge step in medical bounds. Possibly finding various cures saving million of lives.

Technology Issues

In the past few decades the Technological involvement in every day life has exploded. A couple of decades ago the idea of a cell phone was virtually non-existent where today leaving the house without your cell phone is a cause for alarm and you have to turn around and go get it. Much like the cell phone a personal computer and the internet. About 2 decades ago the idea of having a computer at home or in school was virtually non-existent to the average american, as was the idea of the world wide web. When today it is rare to find someone who does NOT have a computer at home. The world of technology continues to grow at unimagiable rate and how it effects our country is all determined by the next president.
Barack Obama will protect the openess of the interent. part of the idea of our country is that we have a freedom to view, listen to and write whatever we so choose. Including anything on the interent. So by keeping in open he furthers this idea. At the same time he will be protecting our children by increasing enforcement resources and forensic tools for law enforcement, and collaboration between law enforcement and the private sector to identify and prosecute people who abuse the Internet to try to exploit children. John McCain, I find, ahs expressed simmilar veiws. Bith cantidates also plan to invest much money into the field of technological science.

Science Issues

Gloabl Warming/ Environment
The idea of Global Warming has become a growing concern over the last decade. It has become apparent that ocean temeratures have been seeming to eise over the years causing the ice in the polar ice caps to melt more and more. The only question is, is it natural or man-made? One side argues that the same thing happened with the beginning and end of each ice age and the same thing is just happeneing again. Where the other side argues that mans use of fossil fuels, endless trash, and other harmful sources of pollution is the cause to the temperature rise. IN truth nither of the parties are completely wrong. I believe that it did begin as a natural cause but is being intensified and sped up by man.

Nuclear Weapons
After we dropped 2 nuclear bombs, Little boy and Fat man, on Hiroshima and Najaski the world has never been the same. We introduced a new kind of bomb most poeple hadn't even thought possible. Everything at ground zero was immedatly killed, and anyone withing a 5-10 mile radius suffered form crippling radiation burns that would effect thgem the rest of their lives. None have been dropped since but now many dangerous powerful countries also posses them. This leaves everyone on edge because we all know that if one country was to drop one it owuld immediately set off a nuclear war, killing us all. I personaly believe no one should have control of this terrible bomb. It killed thousands of people and permanately crippled thousands others, not to mention it caused iresversible damage to the environment and surrounding air, If no one has possesion it takes everyone off edge.

Ramifications of Offshore Drilling
At current oil prices, we will send $700 billion dollars out of the country this year alone.
Projected over the next 10 years the cost will be $10 trillion; it will be the greatest transfer of wealth in the history of mankind. America already has a few trillion dollar debt that is being placed on the shoulders of all young people so why continue adding to it when we clearly dont have the money to even pay what we do now. It wouldn't do anything for our economy, which is crippling in itself. Fortunately there are alternatives, such as off-shore drilling. Yes it may have a negative effect on the environment but we could work something out so that the animals that would be harmed get moved and made sure that they adapt to their new environment untill the old one is cleaned up and back to normal. Not only will drilling offshore help our economy in not adding to our debt but currently our gas prices are skyrocketing out of control at 4+ a gallon. We no longer have control, how much we pay is dictated by the middle eastern countries that we get the oil from, which by the way, the money we pay fuels them in the war we are in against them. By drilling off our shores we will gain back some control of our gas prices and at the same time cut off much of the middle eastern countried 'war funding'.

America’s industrial power and strength in Labor Force and Productivity is supported by deteriorating wages and health benefits. For example, this cartoon depicts a man that represents America, with a muscular torso and arms, on the written labor, productivity and USA. He is wearing tattered shorts, has bone thin legs, and is wearing old ripped up tennis shoes that expose hi toes, representing the wages and health benefits. Suggesting that America has no problem with Labor and productivity, but insufficient wages, and health benefits are even worse. America is an industrial power of the world and produces many great goods and products we use to get more materials and money. Supporting this productivity is an amazing work force, represented by his muscular arm. Everyone must work in order to survive; therefore America is never in short supply of people to do the jobs necessary. Unfortunately that’s where the prosperity ends. The labor force is supported by insufficient wages, shown by old beaten up shorts. Further down the cartoon you see legs with no muscle, basically only bones. The man is wearing ripped shoes, with his toes sticking out. This represents the health benefits. IN America health benefits are little to none. This is a dangerous set up for America: because it suggests how ever so slowly the labor force will begin to deteriorate in a slow-yet sudden- way, affecting the productivity. In order to be and stay truly strong we must build from the bottom up, starting with good health benefits, moving up to wages, and everything else will fall nicely into place.

The media is completely biased in favor of Barack Obama, they have attacked John McCain and Sarah Palin, but not one thing that Obama has done has been wrong. The media and the Democratic Party are trying to force a vote for Obama onto the people of the United States. For example this cartoon depicts a middle aged, middle class man sitting on his couch watching what is supposed to be the news, he calls out to his wife “Hurry! You’re missing the evening news!”. It then goes on to show that the screen is a series of hypnotic swirls. It then shows that it’s saying “Your eyelids are getting heavy…you will vote for Barack Obama…” as if trying to hypnotize the viewer. Suggesting that through Obama’s actions as well as his parties is he basically hypnotizing the population into voting for him by changing his stories depending on the party he is talking to and “fluffing up” his stories and resume. If he would stick to his alleged values he could have a solid platform. This cartoon also suggests that the media has said nothing about this obviouissue. Furthermore if Obama would stop preaching lies then maybe his votes would increase. He doubts the solidity of an honest candidate.

Mortgage securities are too much for Wall Street to handle and will become its downfall. The cartoon shows an Egg, wearing pants that say Mortgage securities around the top, sitting on top of a wall labeled Wall Street. This depicts that huge mortgage securities are sitting over Wall Street putting more and more stress on it. It then shows a huge “CRUNCH” and the egg sitting in a pile of bricks surrounded by a dust cloud. This suggests that the ‘weight’ of the mortgage securities is going to crush Wall Street and send everything to complete chaos. Unless the people in power can get the crumbling economy under control we may be facing a complete economic collapse.

Although the economic crisis was allowed to happen by government, they are using money from taxpayers as the remedy. This cartoon depicts a fire hydrant with the words “Taxpayers” written on it hooked up to a hose. This is saying that taxpayers can be thought of as a never ending source of money, or holding place for easily accessible money, just like fire hydrants are to water. You then see a donkey and an elephant holding the house attempting to douse the fire on a building labeled “Wall Street”. This suggests that the government is frantically trying to fix the current economic situation by pouring tax dollars into it, hoping it will stabilize it. In reality it may stabilize it but that doesn’t mean anything will change. Unless the big companies change their way we’ll just plummet right back into the same situation, continuing on in a vicious cycle of rise and fall.

The America Treasury is continuing to pour thousands of tax dollars into the failing economy. This cartoon depicts a fire truck with taxpayer dollars written on the side and U.S. Treasury written on the front. You then see fire fighters attempting to douse a fire, the US economy, by pouring millions of dollars into the “fire”. Suggesting that with the bailout that all we will be doing/. Pouring money will only fuel the fire to become worse. If we really want to better our economy we first have to “put out the fire”

Why Florida?

Florida first caught my interest as the state to do poll research on because I used to live their, and I wanted to see how the people thought each cantidate would positively or negatively effect our country. I had also learned about its importance of a swing state. Which is why each cantidate has been fighting for it since the beginning of the election, making speech, apperances, ect. It would be very important for either cantidate to win the state.

1. Who do you support in this election?

• John McCain and Sarah Palin.

2. Why do you support them?

• I support him because he is Pro-life I think he has a better eneergy plan and I like his econmic package more. He also has much more experience in high positions.

3. What do you dislike baout the other cantidate?

• I think that he wants more gvernment involvement and I don't like the socialist ideas he brings. I also think that he has very little experience with foreign policies and isn't equipped to run the country at it's head. I also believe taht the plans he brings are extremely expensive and we wil not be able to afford them. He is also pro-choice which I do not believe in at all.

4. Do you believe the propoganda is coming from both parties equally? If not who is it biased for? How much do you find to be true?

• No, i know that the media is completely biased in favor of Obama and he has been airing more negative propoganda than John McCain. I personally believe that the majority of the propoganda is false.

5.Who do you predict will win this election?

• Obama, because he is a great speaker and widely popular throughout the huge liberal states. I also believe that he has more money in his campaign so can com out with much more advertisement. Many poeple tend to blame the situation that our economy is in on the republican party and George Bush, so they tend to steer away form that and vote for who they think will bring more change.

After interviewing my mom I found that she supports John McCain. Although she believes that Obama is going yo be our next president she doesn't believe he is going to be very benifical to our country. She very right when she says the media [and propoganda] is biased in faor of Barrack Obama. Every news station you turn to will either be praising Obama, saying a slanderous comment tword McCain, or trying to bring up bad past stories on Sarah Palin and/or John McCain eventually making the party look bad. When is very far from the truth. If their was even half as much focus on Obamas 'bad moments' as their are on John McCain/Sarah Palin the public would be greatly surprised. Possibly even enough to chnage thier opinion on who should be winning this election.

Political Collage

The republican party, John McCain and Sarah Palin, is considered to be the more conservative christian-oriented party. Though they are conservative they also offer change to America,. McCain plans to use alternative energy sources such as windpower and alternative fuels, but that will not be his only focus. He will also drill for oil offshore of Alaska, to provide a temporary solution to the raising gas prices. McCain also believes that he should cintinue to keep troops in Iraq, if he was to pull them out now it would create a funnel in the Middle East, causing complete chaos. McCain also believes that people should be able to own and handle a gun at their own will as long as they are using is appropriately.



"Vote for Change" The Democratic Party is known as the more liberal party. Obama believes every person should be enatiled to their own choice even if it is considered morally wrong. Obama supports gay rights, and believes they should be free to express their "true selves" without discrmination. Obama also belives that Abortion should be illegal, and up to the mother to decide. Obama will also place great focus onto Bio-fules and opther alternative sources of energy. He believes that doing this will wean us from our dependancy on foreign oil.

Florida Polls

From my reaserch I predict that Obama will win the state at around 51%.
